Professor Jigaro Kano is considered the creator of JUDO

• At Backwell Judo Club we practice KYU SHIN DO. The student of Kyu Shin Do Judo shall strive for PERFECTION and HARMONISE with everything by relaxing first his mind and then his body. KYU "sphere or circle" SHIN " heart or nexus point" DO "way or path"
• The first JUDO demonstration in the UK was 1899. It was not until 1918 that the first club was formed by Gunji Koizumi - the London Bodokwai.
• BU DO KAN - the way of war or the martial way! A Budokan is the place where Budo is practiced. BU "War or Martial" DO "way or path" Kan "public building or hall"
• JUDO - throwing and grappling. KARATE - Kicking and striking. AIKIDO - Locking elbow and wrist joints. JUJITSU - Self defence or unarmed combat. TAI KWON DO - Korean form of Karate. KENDO - Fencing with two-handed bamboo swords.
